TRAINING LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Humans tend to be compassionate and most people have good intentions when trying to assist someone with a mental health issues. Even if we mean well, without proper education, our response might not be helpful. Through Mental Health Intervention training, we can initiate an early intervention preventative effort.

Individuals who complete the Mental Health Intervention Training will:





1. Be equipped with a better understanding of the effects of mental illness


2. Understand how mental illness affects our society socially as well as economically


3. Learn about stigmatizing language, and how to remain respectful when discussing mental health


4. Become more aware of the impacts that COVID-19 has had on our society's mental health.


5. Have a deeper understanding of racial trauma and how black communities are disproportionately affected by mental illness.


6. Learn about suicidal thoughts & behaviors, the warning signs of suicide, and how to help someone who is suicidal.


7. Receive skills regarding how to be a good listener to your fellow employees, friends, and loved ones.


8. Gain insight on the appropriate steps to assisting someone in a mental health crisis.


9. Gain knowledge on different forms of treatment, virtual mental health resources, and how to refer appropriate professional help.


10. Learn about forms of self care, coping strategies, and how to prioritize your own well being.
